Nutrition by The Bloomin Life

Nourish your family, from grain to table.

Fresh-milled flour is more than an ingredient. It is a return to the way food was meant to be made, slowly, honestly, and with the whole grain intact.

From whole grain to flour

Milled fresh, one small batch at a time.

Wheat berries meet the mill close to when the flour is needed, creating fragrant flour ready for sourdough, everyday loaves, and the recipes your family returns to.

A glimpse from The Dusty Apron kitchen
Whole grain vs. refined flour

Why choose fresh-milled whole grains?

Fresh-milled whole-grain flour keeps the bran, germ, and endosperm together, so the grain’s natural fiber and nutrients remain. Fiber slows digestion, which can help blood sugar rise more gradually and help you feel satisfied longer. Refined white flour removes the bran and germ, taking much of that fiber with them.

Whole-wheat flour

The complete grain stays together.

The bran, germ, and endosperm all remain in the flour.

  • The grain's natural fiber remains.
  • More of the grain's naturally occurring nutrients stay in the flour.
  • Fiber slows digestion and does not raise blood sugar the way other carbohydrates can.
  • Simply whole wheat, milled fresh—without preservatives or additives.

Refined white flour

Parts of the grain are removed.

The bran and germ are removed for a finer texture and longer shelf life.

  • Refining removes dietary fiber, iron, and many B vitamins.
  • Enrichment adds some vitamins and iron back, but not the original fiber.
  • With less fiber, refined grains can digest faster and raise blood sugar more quickly.
  • Many packaged breads also use preservatives, emulsifiers, or dough conditioners to maintain softness and extend shelf life.
Why fresh milled?

The whole grain, kept whole.

Stone-ground whole wheat keeps the bran, germ, and endosperm together in the flour.

Whole-grain fiber

The bran remains part of every batch rather than being separated during refining.

Natural grain character

The germ and endosperm remain with the bran for a fuller wheat flavor.

Nothing unnecessary

Whole wheat flour, without preservatives or additives.
